What does Jimmy Buffett, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Al Jarreau, & Arrested Development have in common? …the soulful & upbeat vocals of Nadirah Shakoor, who will be performing a special show at Skinnyz Bar & Grille on Saturday, July 30th from 7:30 pm until 11:30 pm. (This is Nadirah’s 3rd Performance at Skinnyz!)

When Nadirah was only 5 years old, she told her parents she wanted to be a singer just like Diana Ross! Her family moved from Texas to California where Nadirah studied commercial voice and later became one of Los Angeles’ premier singers, which soon led to her being a much sought after back-up vocalist for major band tours.

In 1992, Nadirah joineda Grammy Award winning Hip-Hop group, Arrested Development, as the featured vocalist and was nominated for a Grammy after the success of their second album.She moved on to joining Jimmy Buffett’s “Coral Reefer Band”in 1995. Nadirah’s latest CD, “Nod to the Storyteller” is her tribute to Jimmy Buffett.Songs on this CD include her own “story-telling” lyrics as well asher interpretation of“Margaritaville” and “Volcano.”Also featured are two songs performed as duet (with Jimmy) “Son of a Son of a Sailor” and “When the War is Over” (Eric Clapton’s song).CD’s will be available for purchase at Skinnyz.

Nadirah has been “the Star” behind “the Stars” for many years…..her CD “Nod to the Storyteller” is proving to be an eclectic musical journey as Nadirah’s OWNstars twinkle brightly for the world to see! Jimmy Buffetthas been featuring Nadirah as “part of HIS show” for the past 13 years.
Nadirah Shakoor considers herself as “an old school sista with a new school flair! Her major influences of the music world include Rufus & Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Curtis Mayfield, Smokey Robinson, Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway, and The Spinners.

Nadirah will be accompanied by her phenomenal band, “Outside Art” featuring five very talented musicians filling the beach party’s night air with soul flavored beats mixed in with “old school” dance beats and African rhythms!Kevin Loop, a favorite of Charlotte’s area Parrot Head groups, will kick off the party at 6:00 pm, with another show at 11:30 pm.A Limbo Contest, Dance Contest, Raffle Drawings for Prizes, and Skinnyz Specialz (food/drink ) will be featured during this event.
